ACKBelt – Anti Crush System

Posted on

ACKBelt is an innovative and highly sensitive system that actively prevents collisions and foot crush related accidents involving powered pallet trucks. Its mission is to enhance workplace safety by protecting operators, pedestrians, and infrastructure.

At the heart of the system is a precision pressure sensor. Importantly, ACKBelt functions as a travel direction switch, meaning it requires no additional external switches to operate.

Why Invest in ACKBelt?

Immediately upon installation, ACKBelt significantly reduces the risk of costly accidents in your company. It provides comprehensive protection for the operator, the equipment, and the surrounding infrastructure.

  • Supports Existing Systems The device intelligently enhances existing factory safety systems (like the tiller button) without replacing them. It can also be configured to simultaneously activate other pre-programmed truck functions.
  • Physical Protection The ACKBelt is made of elastomer—a flexible material that effectively absorbs impact force, protecting both the truck and the object it contacts.
  • Visual Warning Mounted on the vehicle’s exterior, the system’s bright yellow-and-black stripes are highly visible. They play a key warning role, signaling the need to maintain a safe distance.
  • Compatibility and Easy Upgrading ACKBelt is compatible with most truck models and brands on the market. This makes it an ideal solution for upgrading, even if you operate a mixed fleet.

Description

Who is the ACKBelt System For?

This solution is designed specifically for businesses that use powered pallet trucks daily. It is ideal for spaces where trucks operate in close proximity to machinery, stored goods, or people.

The system should be implemented wherever a Risk Assessment indicates a potential for the truck to collide with:

  • People: Provides additional protection for operators and pedestrians.
  • Infrastructure: Protects racks, cabinets, barriers, columns, and other equipment.
  • Goods: Secures cargo against damage from impacts.

How Exactly Does ACKBelt Work?

The system’s operation is simple and reliable, based on four steps:

  1. Construction: The belt is made of a durable elastomer containing a chamber that absorbs impact energy. Inside, precision conductive strips are integrated to act as the main switching mechanism.
  2. Activation (Circuit Closure): The system activates immediately upon detecting contact with an obstacle. A pressure force of just 4 to 14 kg is enough for the conductive strips to touch, closing the electrical circuit.
  3. Vehicle Reaction: Once activated, ACKBelt sends an immediate signal. Depending on its configuration, it can:
    • Work in tandem with the truck’s existing anti-crush system (e.g., the tiller button).
    • Send a standalone signal to an external collision monitoring or telematics system.
    • Automatically initiate another safety action, such as applying the brakes or cutting off the truck’s power.
  4. Deactivation (Return to Ready State): As soon as the pressure is removed, the switch contacts open, and the system automatically returns to standby mode, allowing operation to resume.
